George

For years, Goodwill’s Workforce Connection Center in North Riverside, Illinois has helped people in their community find jobs.

Recently, staff at this location worked with a client named George who has struggled to find employment due to mental health issues.

George visited the Center and our staff helped him with his job search. He utilized the free services that each Center offers such as using computers to complete online job applications and to check the job lead database. In addition, they provided him with resume writing assistance. Another beneficial service Goodwill offers job seekers is providing them with a voucher through our Goodwill Cares program. George was able to shop at our Goodwill Store & Donation Centers to purchase clothing for his job interviews.

Given George’s challenges, the staff suggested targeting an entry-level position, perhaps in food service, retail or a grocery store. They referred him to Tony’s Finer Foods, a local business. George secured an interview and then landed the job! Just before Christmas, he contacted the Riverside staff and informed them that he secured a full-time Stocker position. Since then, George has periodically checked in with the staff to express his excitement and gratitude. He is now in a position where he can become independent and self-sufficient. He said he loves his job because his co-workers are kind and easy to work with, and the patrons who shop at the store are also nice as well!

Stories like George's are made possible because of you! Through your shopping and donating at our Goodwill Store & Donation Centers that revenue is reinvested into our Goodwill Workforce Connection Centers. Thank you for helping people find meaningful work that leads to stable and successful futures!
