That’s why we can’t get enough of the winter décor trends that have stood out amongst the rest. Each can be pulled off effortlessly and without a lot of money – two great combinations! Whether you’re entertaining a full household of guests or a small group of close friends, these trends are a surefire way to have your home looking stylish in a flash! This winter, be sure to deck your halls with trunks, peel and stick wallpaper, the crafty look, brass and twig floral arrangements!

TrunksTrunks:

Before the guests arrive, you’ll want to tidy up your living space and make way for extra dishes to pass, and holiday décor! Trunks are a sleek way to store your extra items. Not only will they hide the clutter, they also bring an eclectic vibe to the space. Check your local Goodwill stores for a variety of trunks that fit your personal taste. To keep your home stylish, be sure to place your trunk in functional places; they work great as coffee tables and nightstands!

Tip: If a trunk seems too big for your space, use a vintage travel suitcase instead. This is a fun way to give your home more character. We can’t get enough of the new trend that has hit the home décor world, or should we say “walls?” There’s nothing more refreshing than changing up the whole look o f a room, and peel and stick wallpaper will let you do just that! Hosting a New Year’s party? Transform the look of your dining room for the night with a bold pattern on peel and stick wallpaper. This is such a fun way to try out something daring for your walls, without worrying about how permanent it will be. If you have a lot of white or cream furniture, try out dark navy or burgundy tones for the walls. If your furniture features a lot of dark woods, go for metallic peel and stick wallpaper. Explore different patterns and textures; that’s what this trend is all about!

Crafty LookThe Crafty Look:

We all have an inner crafty side. Whether it’s as extensive as making your own coffee table or as minor as painting a vase, we’ve all got what it takes to pull off one of winter’s top trends. The crafty look is one of our favorite trends for this season; not only is it extremely cost effective, it also screams personality! So how do you pull it off? You can tackle this trend in one of two ways. If you’re someone who can make their own seat cushions, do just that; create throw pillow covers from sweaters, or create upcycled lighting fixtures from unique materials. If you’re not as confident with your crafting abilities, cheat it. The “DIY” look is so popular that you can find an array of items at stores, like Goodwill, that look like you made them yourself. To be more budget friendly however, we suggest you try out a few small projects on your own. Start small; paint a mirror with chalkboard paint and hang it in your kitchen as a menu board. Repurpose mason jars into tea-light holders or mini vases – the possibilities are endless!

Tip: At Goodwill, we love everything about repurposing and upcycling. Not only is it completely trendy, it also saves you money. To see our favorite upcycling and DIY project ideas, and get a little inspiration, follow us on Pinterest at: http://pinterest.com/amazinggoodwill/

BrassBrass:

One thing homes crave during winter is warmth. We don’t just mean turning up the thermostat; make your space more cozy and inviting using décor that evokes that feeling. Brass is a great way to do that! Whether your personal style is modern or traditional, brass details will add a little something special to any room. The key to this trend is utilizing subtle hints of brass throughout the home; brass candle sticks above the fireplace, brass handles on china or brass lamp vases. Each of these items will provide an elegant glow that’s perfect for the wintertime. Check your local Goodwill for small brass items that you can incorporate throughout your home; we just love how accessible and affordable this trend is!

Tip: Because brass pairs well with other metals, make yourself a beautiful holiday table display incorporating multiple metals. Start by heading to Goodwill for a variety of candle sticks in various heights and metal finishes. Line your candle sticks up down the length of your dining room table, voila. The finished display will look amazing!

Twig Floral ArrangementsTwig Floral Arrangements
:

Depending on where you live, winter is typically not the best time for picking fresh flowers from the garden. We’re not strangers to harsh winters, so we couldn’t be more thrilled that one of this season’s trends is allowing us to continue adding nature into our homes. Twig arrangements are not anything new, but interior designers have recently begun incorporating them more and more into their designs. The best thing about this trend? You can look no further than your backyard for the supplies! We love the look of long, thin twigs in glass vases. Add a little candlelight, or strand of white holiday lights to create a festive display.

Tip: Change-up the look of your twig display, to fit various occasions. During the holidays, dangle small red ornaments from sturdy branches. For New Year’s, tie balls of glitter (kitty glitter balls will do) to the branches.
