Winter 2014/2015 Clothing Trends

Holiday work parties, family get-togethers, shopping trips and more; winter calls for an array of activities. And these activities call for stylish looks for each occasion – that’s where Goodwill comes in! This season’s trends are all about contrast; mixes of textures, materials, patterns and more. Winter blues will be long gone when you’re caught wearing jeweled flats, “matchy-matchy” outfits, cuff bracelets and mixed stripes!

Jeweled FlatsJeweled Flats

Why they made the list: The jeweled trend has got designers bedazzling everything in the clothing world right now, but we love the look of glitzed-up ballet flats! They add just the right amount of pop to an outfit to make you dazzle, while still looking sophisticated.

Pull it off: Don’t go crazy; less is definitely more when it comes to this trend. Look for a neutral toned pair of flats with jeweled or beaded accents. The neutral hue of the shoe allows you to pair them with a variety of outfits. Our favorite jeweled flats are worn with a pair of dark skinny jeans, and a neutral sweater. Make sure the rest of your outfit has simple lines and patterns; the shoes should be the “icing” on the cake!

Matchy MatchyMatchy-Matchy

Why it made the list: Some used to think of it as dull, but the 2014/2015 take on the matchy trend is anything but! Pairing wardrobe pieces from the same hue is eye-catching and creates a classy, unified look.

Pull it off:  The outfit as a whole is the focal point, so the goal is to not make one piece stand out more than any other. Make sure you add layers to your look, such as a sweater over a blouse, to add contrast and texture. It’s okay to add a small amount of a different hue too; try a complimentary color in your handbag or shoes.

Cuff braceletsCuff Bracelets

Why they made the list: Cuff bracelets have an edginess to them that is not only appealing, but also seems to lend itself perfectly into a variety of outfits. We love that no matter your style personality, there’s a cuff bracelet for everyone; leather, jeweled, metal and more!

Pull it off: The key is to find a cuff bracelet that works with your own style. If you’re typically in an office setting wearing business clothes, look for a metal cuff bracelet with simple details. Going for a more casual look? Try a leather cuff with a bit more edge. Or mix your materials and look for a cuff bracelet in both metal and leather; our favorite take on this trend!

Mixed stripesMixed Stripes

Why it made the list: Stripes are an easy way to add patterns to your look, especially if you’re usually found donning solids. We love that this season’s take on the classic pattern combines stripes of different angles and sizes. This trend not only adds dimension to the wardrobe, it’s also figure flattering!

Pull it off: While your stripes can zig-zag in a variety of directions, your look should remain classic and sophisticated. This can be done by sticking to neutral tones. We love mixed stripes done on black and white. The color combination is also the perfect look for winter! Avoid too many combinations of colors in one outfit; the stripes need to stand out, with the colors simply accentuating them. Keeping your accessories solid is another way to make sure your mixed stripes are the focal point.
