Summer 2015 Home Trends

We love the freshness of summer home decor; its vibrancy is exactly what your home craves after a rainy spring. One of our favorite things about this season’s trends is that they each encompass a very different style, yet they can all work in the same space. The heat has turned up outside, now turn it up inside with melamine plates, scalloped edges, blush tones and reclaimed wood.

Melamine Plates

Melamine Plates

Why they made the list: These lightweight and affordable plates are perfectly sturdy for outdoor use. And, this season they’re donning fun, pretty styles!

Pull it off: Have fun with this trend; there’s really no right or wrong way to add plates to your collection. Simply look for a pattern that either works with your current color scheme or one that has a completely different style. You could add a wilder pattern to your “outdoor dinnerware” collection for those fun summer parties!

Scalloped-Edges-june2015Scalloped Edges

Why they made the list: This curvy trend is soft and feminine, yet elegant and simplistic. You’ll see scalloped edges in frames, mirrors, and even with the structure of furniture pieces.

Pull it off: If you keep your scalloped edges subtle, you can never really add too much of them. We suggest sticking to the accessories in one living space, to help tie the room together. For a feminine look, keep the rest of your colors soft and neutral. To add a bit of flair, try pairing your scalloped edges with jewel tones and chocolate leather.

Blush-Tones_summer2015

Blush Tones

Why they made the list: A little pink, plus a pinch of cream; we love this summertime neutral! You’ll find that the effortless hues of blush may be pretty, but they’re anything but dainty, this season.

Pull it off: Blush tones tend to do their magic the best in the bathroom or bedroom. The tones pair well with other neutral hues, which are typically found in these two spaces. For the bath, begin with subtle additions of blush through bathroom accessories – toothbrush holders, waste baskets, soap dishes, etc. For the bedroom, add throw pillows or a duvet in blush for a soft, sensual look.

Reclaimed-Wood_summer2015Reclaimed Wood

Why it made the list: Being green is always on-trend, but this season you’ll see wood being recycled in a number of uber creative ways. From tables and wall art, to walls themselves, wood is getting a second life for summer!

Pull it off: This trend can be done as minimal or as excessive as you’d like – that’s one of the best parts about it! Going for an understated look? Add wall décor or a side table made from reclaimed wood. Want to go all out? Create a focal wall using assorted pieces of reclaimed wood. We love this look! A simple internet search will help you find tutorials for reclaimed wood projects of all sizes. The possibilities are endless!
