Is it just us, or has summer arrived early this year? Either way, we’re more than happy to welcome the sunny days, weekend picnics and casual style that accompany this season! One of the biggest dilemmas in the summertime is choosing what to wear. We all want to keep our sense of style, and look trendy; but, we also want to stay cool and comfortable at the same time. This season’s trends are all about cool comfort; with items that are fresh, casual and allow you to still stand out. Summer’s must-haves include wayfarer sunglasses, colorful shorts, cover-ups, ‘70s floppy hats and chambray shirts.
Wayfarer sunglasses
Wayfarer sunglasses were first manufactured by Ray-Ban in 1956. They are known for breaking away from the standard metal eyewear everyone was used to. While they were very popular in the ‘60s and ‘80s, they’re now back and gaining popularity once again! Wayfarers are popular for their iconic and classic style. We love that they’re now widely available in numerous colors. If you’re going for the traditional throwback style, you’ll want to go for all black plastic frames. Or, add a fun pop of summer color to your look by wearing a pair that has neon arms. Our favorite twist on the classic Wayfarer style is the addition of animal print. This brings a modern edge to such an iconic look. Whichever style represents you the best, there’s no wrong way to wear this trend!
Tip: Fortunately, because of their popularity, the Wayfarer style can be found almost anywhere you look. This also means they’ll be available at a wide variety of prices. Don’t forget to check the shelves at your local Goodwill for a pair. You can still pull off this great trend, without breaking the bank. We suggest buying two pairs, so you can change-up your look!
Colorful Shorts:
Shorts; they’re a must-have for summertime. This is why we can’t get enough of the colorful shorts that are popping up everywhere. We will forever love the classic look of blue denim, but it’s time to make room for a few colorful hues! This trend is made up of shorts in all sorts of fabrics, lengths and every color you can think of. This makes it really easy and affordable for everyone of all ages and body types to rock this trend. We also love that colorful shorts can be worn both casually and dressy; a necessity in summer fashion! If you’re looking for a casual look, go for a pair of short or Bermuda length colorful shorts. Pair these with a simple white top and a pair of flat sandals. Swap your day look for an evening out, by wearing a pair of blue or red short shorts with a black blouse and wedge heels. Goodwill has a great variety of colorful shorts. And, at such low prices, you’ll be sure to find a pair in all of your favorite shades!
Tip: The hottest colors this season are coral, orange, royal blue and turquoise. We suggest looking for a pair of shorts in any of these shades. They each work flawlessly with a simple white top and sandals. The best part about these popular colors though, is that they all complement each other too! If you really want to turn the heat up on your style, try a pair of orange shorts with a plain turquoise top, a sure way to stand out!
Cover-ups:
Summer weather equals beachwear! Have a little fashion fun this time around with the very popular beach cover-up. Think of your cover-up as an accessory to your swimwear. It doesn’t need to match your swimsuit, but it should compliment it. If your swimsuit is plain, opt for a colorful graphic cover-up. If you have a printed suit, look for a cover-up that’s plain or has a simple print such as stripes or polka-dots. If you’re having trouble finding a cover-up that you like, head to the women’s shirt section and look for a larger tunic or button-down shirt – these double as great alternatives to the cover-up!
Tip: Avoid looking over and under-dressed with your cover-up by finding just the right fit! The length should fall to the middle of your thighs or longer; enough to cover your backside. The fabric should be flowy, not overly snug.
‘70s Floppy Hats:
For those of us who can’t get enough of the summer sun, a hat is essential! Keep your look trendy, with the ‘70s inspired floppy hats that are showing up all over store shelves. They not only keep your face and neck out of the sunlight, they also look absolutely fabulous! To stay with the traditional style, look for a black or tan floppy hat in straw material. This material will also keep you the coolest. Feel like spicing up the look? Go ahead and rock a floppy hat with color! These hats definitely make a statement, so don’t overdo it on the rest of your accessories. A simple pair of bangle bracelets will do!
Chambray Shirts:
Chambray shirts are timeless and have Americana written all over them! It’s no surprise this style is one of the summer’s hottest trends, as it’s becoming a closet staple. Although chambray shirts have long or quarter length sleeves, their lightweight fabric keeps them cool and breezy in the summertime. The true trend is worn in a blue denim material, but gray hues are also hugely popular! These shirts are perfect to wear over your swimsuit, or with a pair of shorts. Our favorite look is blue denim chambray shirt, with white shorts and flip-flops. It’s cool and casual, but oh so stylish!
