Spring 2015 Home Trends

We know it’s still a little cold out, but go ahead and turn the heat down, open your windows and let the crisp spring breeze in! Even if it’s a little chilly out, it still feels good to let that fresh air in doesn’t it? Whether or not the weather evokes spring, there’s no reason your home shouldn’t. We’re replacing the dark home décor hues of winter with bright and airy patterns and hues throughout your home. We’ll help you get started with spring’s hottest home décor trends: colorful animal print, Egyptian blue tones, gingham and “all white!”

Animal printsColorful Animal Print:

Why it made the list

The idea of animal print doesn’t normally evoke images of spring. That’s why this season’s fresh take on what is normally a dark, exotic pattern, is a welcome surprise! Animal prints definitely stand out; they’re distinctive, just like the animals they’re meant to resemble. We love this distinctiveness combined with the soft subtle hues of spring.

Pull it off

Your colorful animal print should be used as an accent, not the main focal point. Look for pieces that will add that subtle detail to the room, such as pillow shams, accent rugs, or curtains. You’ll want to stick to pale tones, like cream, white, teal, pink or sky blue to keep the print from too closely resembling safari-style animal print.

egyptian blueEgyptian Blue Tones:

Why it made the list

We love the bright hue that is Egyptian blue! It’s not quite blue, but it’s not quite green; it’s a stunning shade all its own. We imagine the waters of Aruba must have a similar tone (summer vacation, anyone?). Egyptian blue is a heavily saturated color, which makes it perfect for adding a luxurious touch to any space. The color also works well on a variety of fabrics, making it easily accessible for any part of the home.

We love how Egyptian blue looks in the kitchen. There’s something about the bright color that looks great on glassware! If you’re looking to update your dinnerware, spring is a great time to do it. Look for a new set of plates in beautiful Egyptian blue. Small accent pieces, such as picture frames, small glass decorations or lamp shades, are a great way to add a burst of blue to other rooms in your home.

GinghamGingham:

Why it made the list

Gingham, otherwise known as the checkerboard pattern, at first glance appears to be pretty simple. We’ve found however, that it can add a large amount of complexity and contrast to whichever space it’s used in. While it used to be thought of as rustic, gingham this spring has taken on a feminine look with touches of masculinity. This allows the checkerboard look to work great in all areas of the home!

As we noted above, gingham in the springtime is best done when it mixes feminine colors with masculine touches. Look for a soft hue of red, cream or even pink for the pattern. The masculine touches can come in with the hardware (if done near a dresser), the wooden legs of a chair, or even the hardwood floors, when the gingham is used on curtains or an area rug.

all whiteAll White:

Why it made the list

Who doesn’t love the crisp, clean feel of an all-white space? This trend is all about muted hues, rather than the heavy mix of bright colors. A space that’s virtually all white is like starting out with a blank slate; one that doesn’t need to have much added to it. White spaces are not only sophisticated, but refreshing. Just what we need to welcome spring!

Pull it off

If your first thoughts when reading “all white” went to spaghetti stains and muddy shoes, have no fear. As with any of our trends, they can be completely customized to your lifestyle and personality; you can add as many or as little as you see fit. Ideally, with the all-white trend, you’ll want to utilize a space that already has light colors as the base.  White walls, accent furniture (coffee and end tables) and white decorations (frames, lamps, etc.) give just the right amount of white. If your couch isn’t white, that’s perfectly fine. Simply add white pillows and a blanket to ensure white is the main tone throughout! If you’re starting off with heavy white furniture, feel free to add pastel accent tones throughout your décor, to add just the right amount of contrast to your space.
