Spring 2014 Clothing Trends

Spring’s forecast calls for an understated take on clothing style, color and shape! Don’t pack away your dark hues just yet; winter is making its way out like a lion, meaning those blacks and grays are here to stay. Have no fear; spring does have its share of color, but we’ll save the bright and bold for summer and stick to unassuming hues this season. We can’t wait for the first day of spring, so we can see more shades of blush, dressy shorts, florals, cropped tops and sporty shoes!

Shades of Blush

Why it made the listShades of Blush
We adore the perfectly feminine color of blush. Rose, coral and pink are just a few of the blush shades you’ll see this spring. The hue is flattering on all skin types and looks great with all hair colors. We love that it gives an airy, breezy feeling to any fabric it’s used on too!

Pull it Off
Try highlighting a blush top with black cropped pants. This look really shows off the softness of the feminine hue. Pair this with gold or silver jewelry; either will work, even mixing and matching! For a completely different take, wear a monochromatic blush look; a bright pink sweater paired with a pink A-line skirt, for example. Accessorize with rosy pumps. This gives a delicate look, without being too youthful. If you’ve never worn pink and are worried it’s too “girly” for you, start minimal. A pink belt paired with a black A-line dress is a no-brainer for great style!

Why it made the list
It’s the feel of a mini-skirt with an added sophistication (and comfort!), what’s not to love? We adore the rich fabrics and the sleek styles shorts have taken this spring. You’ll find shorts in a range of fabrics including leather, brocade, lace and other opulent looks. One of our favorite things about dressy shorts is that they can go from the office to a dinner party without changing a thing! While always dressy, they come in a variety of styles too, so you’ll be sure to find a look that’s right for you. Summer will bring out an endless supply of denim shorts, but these dressy shorts for spring are truly a breath of fresh air!

Pull it Off
For shorts with a fun texture, like lace or brocade, accessorize them with dark tights in a complimentary shade, and a pair of black heels. If you have a pair of longer dressy shorts, look for a matching blazer and lose the tights. Both of these looks are perfect for the office. If you want to dress down your outfit, without losing the classy look of dressy shorts, go for a more structured and colorful short. Pair your navy dressy shorts with a casual white tee and a pair of white wedges. This look is perfect for a day of shopping with the gals or a casual date night.

Floral PantsFlorals

Why it made the listDark Floral Dress
We get it; florals in spring, there’s no surprise there. But there is! We’re not talking about a few sprinkles of petals here and there; we’re talking about an explosion of blooms! That eye-catching look is just what we’re craving this season too. Where the understatement comes in, are the shades the floral prints are in. They’re either dark and ethereal or light and wistful. Both looks are moody in their own way and truly captivating. It’s like a work of art in your wardrobe!

Pull it Off
Our favorite way to wear these blooms is in a fitted dress. The look is truly feminine, yet can be given a mysterious twist when done in darker florals. You’ll also see dark florals on cropped pants. This look pairs perfectly with a black blazer and casual tee! Be sure to keep your accessories minimal, as the key is to keep the florals at the center of attention. Pair your florals with simple nude or black pumps for a dressed up look, or a pair of plain sneakers for a more casual take on the trend.

Cropped Tops

Why it made the listCropped Top Outfits
Cropped tops are one of the top looks of the season! This proportion shift may take some getting used to for some but you’ll soon find that, when done right, cropped tops truly add understated refinement to your wardrobe. One of the best parts about this trend is that it gives you options! With a variety of fabrics and even lengths, you be able to wear your cropped top with multiple looks.

Pull it Off
Make your cropped top fashion forward by layering it over a white or black button-down shirt. This look shows off the cropped top style, but keeps you from baring your navel. Want to get more of the retro appeal of the cropped top? Look for a longer one that falls to the edge of your pant or skirt’s waistband. This look is great for highlighting your waist without exposing too much. Because the top has a naturally tailored structure to it, your pants or skirt can either be structured for a sleeker look, or loosely fitted for a modern take on the style.

Sporty Shoes OutfitSporty Shoes

Why it made the listSporty Shoes
They’re sporty and comfortable, with a touch of femininity. Finally, a shoe that honestly feels and good as it looks! If you’re someone who can’t resist wearing sandals, but need something with more stability to them, spring’s sporty shoes are just what you need to put some pep to your step. Another great aspect of this trend is the variety of styles you’ll find them in; from chunky sandals to wedged sneakers, there’s a style for every personality.

Pull it Off
You’ll see chunky sandals in a variety of colors and prints. We suggest looking for a print with some pops of color. Just keep the rest of your outfit muted, so that the shoes can stand out to their full potential! In the world of wedged sneakers, you don’t want to sacrifice style to obtain the trend; there’s definitely a fine line. The key to this is to find a wedged sneaker in a neutral solid color; one that will pair well with dark denim skinny jeans or colorful leggings. These bottoms complement the style of the wedge perfectly, and they uphold the understated sophistication we’re wanting this spring.
