Fall 2016 Home Décor Trends

When you go from warm summer to breezy fall, the process of transitioning your home décor can feel overwhelming. With the help of Goodwill and this season’s home décor trends, you’ll have plenty of time for apple picking and pumpkin carving, we promise! Give your home a subtle nudge into fall with mother of pearl, cutting boards on display, letters as décor and clay pink colors.

Mother of PearlMother of Pearl

Why it made the list:

Winter can’t have all the fun with its shimmery fabrics! Fall is stepping out with the natural, yet whimsical look of mother of pearl. We love that pearl isn’t your typical fall material, yet it has found a way to seamlessly blend with the rustic vibe the season brings.

Pull it off:

Mother of pearl pairs perfectly with wood and metallic – this is such a fresh take on fall decor. Small accent pieces are a simple way to incorporate the trend into your home. Look for picture frames or hallway mirrors to add the perfectly pearl touch!

Cutting_Boards_on_Display.jpgCutting Boards on Display

Why they made the list:

We love a trend that takes items you already have in your home. Collections on display are always a favorite for us! As artists continue to create stunning woodwork on cutting boards, the rustic, lived-in feel of displaying them has really stood out this season. It’s décor that serves a purpose – storage and style!

Pull them off:

Cutting board displays look best when they look as though little effort was put into displaying them. It’s easier than it sounds! We suggest laying your boards out on the floor to help determine the pattern first. Display your boards in different shapes, sizes and wood grains to really nail the trend!

Tip: Be sure to check the housewares section at Goodwill for a new addition to your cutting board collection!

Letters as decorLetters as Décor

Why they made the list:

They began to inch their way into the interior design world earlier this year, but letters in home décor are seriously taking over this fall. We love the variety of materials, colors and sizes available. And you can even add a DIY touch to them – bonus!

Pull them off:

We love letters added to a wall collage! Blend them into your favorite art pieces, by adding a metal initial of your last name. Or, give your little one a head start on his/her ABCs by adding a collection of small alphabet letters on the wall. Mixing your sizes and textures is a sure way to rock this trend.

Tip: add a DIY touch to your letter by transferring a photo or map to it. See how, in our 2016 Living Amazing Fall Guide: http://www.amazinggoodwill.com/living-amazing-0

Clay PinkClay Pink

Why it made the list:

Instead of bringing in deep, jewel tones for fall, we love that designers are taking a softer transition into the season. The beautiful, muted tones of clay pink are both sophisticated and elegant.

Pull it off:

Because pastels, especially pink, can be a little intimidating to splash on a wall, start small! We love the look of clay pink added to a nightstand or accent table. It can easily nestle into a bedroom or bathroom. Or, add rustic pieces to it; you’ll love how easily it blends with the woodsy feel of fall.

Tip: Can’t find a pink in the muted shade you want? Do it yourself! Mix white into your pink paint until you get your desired color. Then, give it a vintage look by gently using sandpaper on the edges and legs.
