Fall 2015 Home Trends

Ah fall; cozy sweaters, apple cider, logs in the fireplace and the smell of burning leaves – we love everything about this season! As the temperature begins to drop, we tend to focus on the transition of our wardrobe, but don’t forget about transitioning your home décor as well! Your home will look amazing for fall using trends that include neutrals, collections on display, trays and ultramarine accents.

Neutral decorNeutrals

Why they made the list:

Think calm, cozy, light and airy! After a colorful summer, home décor is craving neutral tones. Neutrals are being seen as fresh rather than dull this season. We really love the simplicity of this trend; all you need is texture and shape to bring it to life!

Pull it off:

The first place we suggest incorporating a neutral look is the bedroom; it’s the ideal place for relaxing tones, and also the easiest place to integrate the trend. Start with bed sheets in neutral tones of cream or light gray. Next, add a textured blanket in a similar shade. Finally, accent pillows in textured fabrics are the icing to the cupcake! The key to neutrals is finding tones that complement one another, without becoming monochromatic. We find the easiest way to do this is by finding your main neutral color for the largest piece in the room; bedspread, curtains and/or rug, then building upon it with items in shades that are just a tad darker and lighter than that main hue.

Collections on DisplayCollections on Display

Why they made the list:

At Goodwill, we love collections; our stores are full of great items for gatherers of all sorts, from vases and tea cups, to wall art and accent pillows! Lucky for us, fall is all about putting these collections front and center. We love that displaying collections gives a curated look (also trending for fall!), and it’s so easy to pull off.

Pull it off:

This one is so simple! If you’re already a collector of specific items, all you need to do is put them on display. Wall shelves are an affordable and stylish way to do it. We love that you can place wall shelves at various heights; your finished piece creates a unique accent wall of collections. Not a collector yet? It’s easy to accumulate unique pieces (especially when you have Goodwill nearby!). Pieces that can be hung or placed on shelves work best. A few of our favorite collections are teacups/mugs, flower vases, perfume bottles and plates!

Tray-400Trays

Why they made the list:

Trays are perfect for those of us who want to display various items, but want an organized look too. They slowly made their way into home décor this summer, but for fall, you’ll see trays everywhere! With a variety of shapes, colors and sizes, this trend is one we can all pull off!

Pull it off:

There’s no wrong way to do this trend! We do suggest placing your tray in a location that allows it to organize items without becoming the “recycling bin” for items you’re trying to hide. We adore the look of a tray on an entryway table. This is a great place to place your keys as you come in the door, while adding a pretty display of flowers too! Trays also work well on coffee tables for magazines and remotes (remember to keep it clutter-free!), or on a bathroom cabinet to display an arrangement of candles.

Ultramarine-decor-400Ultramarine Accents

Why they made the list:

Each season, we look for that shade of color that is popping up everywhere in the home décor world. Ultramarine dove right in to fall, and rightly so; it’s glossy, vibrant and just so stunning!

Pull it off:

You’ll see this great hue in home décor accessories and paint colors. When adding a new color to home décor, we find the best way to start is with accent pieces – pillows, lamp shades, small rugs, etc. Ultramarine is vibrant, so place the color is any space that could use an extra pop of life. The skies the limit – and yes, you could even add it as an accent color to your ceiling!
