Fall is one of our favorite seasons for clothing. Why you ask? For starters, you can pull out more of those classic dark colors from your closet that you love to wear. Secondly, you can pull together both summer and winter pieces from your wardrobe to keep up with the changing weather. This year, fall trends focus on items that keep the fun feel of summer going, but transition easily into fall with sophisticated colors and edgier characteristics. When you take the kids trick-or-treating, or sit outside the coffee shop with apple cider, you’ll definitely want to be caught in these trends: Chianti tones, leather, embellishments, necklace collars and mysterious florals.
Chianti Tones:
When we think of fall colors, orange, yellow and red definitely come to mind. In the fashion world, the go-to color for fall is Chianti (yes, like the wine). We love the incredible richness this color adds to any look. And, it’s oh so sophisticated! This season, you’ll see Chianti tones in everything from shoes and handbags, to jackets and dresses; so you’re guaranteed to find a way to pull off this trend. If you’re hesitant toward wearing such a deep tone, start off by incorporating it into your accessories. A sleek white and black work outfit with a Chianti handbag is a look that will surely turn heads!

Leather:
Leather is one of the hottest trends for fall, and it’s being worn as anything but the stereotypical “biker” look we know it as. You’ll notice that leather this season is being treated much more like a fabric than a tough material; it has an increased suppleness that makes it much more practical in everyday outfits. Many designers have started to incorporate leather into their clothing in small details, such as the rim of a sweater or the lines of a skirt. Other designers have gone all out; creating tops and dresses in all leather. This is perfect for us fashionistas, because we can choose to wear as little or as much of the trend as we are comfortable with! We love that designers are not sticking to the usual brown and black tones we’re used to seeing leather in. This season, you’ll see leather in rich shades of red, blue and green as well.
Tip: If you’re worried about the ladylike appearance of leather, have no fear! Try out this trend in a full leather skirt. It’ll give you that feminine feel you’re looking for, but with a subtle edge.
Embellishments:
We’re not talking little rhinestones; embellishments as a trend are all about a completely bejeweled look. Why is this so popular for the fall? For starters, the dazzling look of embellishments is a beautiful contrast to the dull and faded feel that is often associated with fall. Second, embellishments add an ornate elegance to whatever they are donned on. A once plain sweater is transformed into a trendy go-to piece when jewels are added to the neckline! Besides tops, you’ll also see embellishments added to handbags, shoes and even dresses this fall. One of our favorite ways we’re seeing this trend used, is by contrasting colors. A faded grey or tan sweater with dazzling jewels is simply fabulous; it’s girly with a rocker edge!
Necklace Collars:
Are they collars, or necklaces? Actually, they’re both, and we’re obsessed! Collars are worn just like a necklace, but they give the “finished” look of a collar. We love this trend, because adding a fun collar to a shirt you’ve had for years makes it feel like a whole new outfit. You’ll find collars in a wide variety of shapes and sizes too; some are subtle fabric collars, while others are bold with rhinestones. They’re a really fun way to show off a bit of your personality. As much as we love fun pops of color for the fall, our favorite collars are the ones with black stones. This worn over white or grey sweater looks amazing! For a modern feel, find a metal collar with pointed lines in it!
Tip: The lines of the collar can change up the whole feel of your look. If you’re going for a soft, feminine look, make sure your collar has rounded edges. A straight edged collar will give an edgy feel.
Mysterious Florals:
Fall florals are anything but dainty! The floral prints inspired by the moodiness of this season are dark and mysterious. Designers are coming out with large blooms in black and plum tones, contrasted by rich background colors. You’ll see this trend mainly in dresses; however pants and handbags are blooming with mysterious florals as well. Not everyone is a fan of floral prints, as they have a reputation for being unflattering when worn incorrectly – but, when worn correctly, they are amazing! The key to wearing mysterious florals is to keep the shape of your outfit simple and un-layered. Accessories should be minimal, to allow the florals to do the talking. Make sure the colors worn against the florals are complimentary; the florals are dark so the colors worn around it should be equally rich and moody.
