Summer 2010 Home Tips & Trends

Summer is almost here, and this season’s trends feature combinations of modern touches and ethnic flair; from alphabet lettering and gold accents, to indoor/outdoor lanterns and mirrored furniture. Add a pop of cultural inspirations to your décor, and your home will be ready for the summer!

Cultural Inspirations
Warm up your home with ethnic flair! Cultural inspirations are popping up in all forms of home decorations this season. We especially love the look of Moroccan inspired lanterns around the house. These come in a variety of colors that add a wonderful ethnic touch to any setting. We’re also seeing cultural inspirations in the beadwork on candle holders and even fabric patterns on pillows.

Mirrored Front on Furniture
Bedroom furniture is the center of attention this season. The look of wood has been ditched for mirrored glass. We’re seeing this new trend in dressers, nightstands, and even bathroom vanities. This is a great way to liven up a bedroom too; your room will appear brighter and even bigger!

Alphabet Lettering
This trend is as easy and A-B-C. Alphabet letting is showing up this season in all sorts of household accessories. We love the look of a letter on a mantle, and it makes for a great discussion piece. You can even jazz up a room with alphabet lettering wallpaper to give any room a modern feel.  Other popular items for this alphabet soup include plates, floor mats, office décor, and yes, even dish sponges.

Gold Accents
Gold is back in a big way this season. We’re seeing accents of this bold color all around the house. Try a mirror with gold trim for a subtle change. Even adding a gold bowl or vase to a room can add a bright touch. The best part about gold; it adds rich warmth to the room regardless of the existing color scheme.

Outdoor lanterns used indoors
From the backyard to the kitchen or living room, we love the look of outdoor lanterns accessorizing indoor spaces. Any small size lantern will work; the most popular being white metal. Light a candle inside your lantern to give the room a unique rustic look. The look of a white metal lantern will give your room a fresh, simple feel, while a darker metal brings a modern appearance to the room.
