Fall 2010 Home Tips & Trends
Fall’s home trends are all about personality! That’s right; this season is the time for taking every day home accessories and adding your own personal touch to them. From poufs and small rugs, to mis-matched hardware and empty frames, the cool fall breeze is carrying in the need for personal flair!
A pouf:
Don’t let the name fool you; this home accessory may sound froufrou, but it is anything but that. Poufs are hitting the floors this fall, literally, and we love them! One of the most practical accessories around, the pouf can be a side table, a foot rest, or an extra seat. They come in a variety of shapes, including round, rectangular and square, so they’ll fit in to any already existing home décor. As if they weren’t already AMAZING enough, poufs are available in fabrics and colors galore! A colorful print can add a fun pop of color to your room, while a brown leather one looks classic and sophisticated.
Small Rugs:
At just three by five feet, these rugs may be small but they can add a punch of color to any room. Small rugs are great, because they fit in a variety of areas in the house. And, no matter your personal home style, you’re sure to find one that fits right in with your décor. Want to welcome guests with a happy and fun feel? A bright colored or floral print rug by the front door will do just that. They also come in classic prints that work well with any current color scheme. These are also great bargain shopping finds; if you find a rug with a print and price you love but it’s too big, no worries simply cut it down to a three by five size, or whatever size fits your space!
Mis-Matched Hardware:
This fall trend is the epitome of eclectic style. Who says every cabinet handle has to be the same anyway? Mixing different handles on various pieces, such as dresser drawers or bathroom cabinets, adds a fun carefree feel to the room. This is a great way to incorporate your personal style, from the choice of handles you pick. It’s also one of the most inexpensive ways to change up the look of a room! Don’t go overboard though; the key to making this trend work is using mis-matched pieces, but still ones that coordinate with one another. We suggest either sticking to one color, such as bronze, but using different shapes and styles. Or, you a variety of colors, but stick to one shape or size. This way, the uniqueness looks intentional.
Empty Picture Frames:
It may sound odd, but a wall of empty picture frames is one of the biggest trends this fall. This is an AMAZING way to use those quirky looking frames that you don’t have a picture for. Simply take five to ten frames, sans glass and backing, and hang them randomly on a wall. The result; a modern focal point for a previously bare wall! Our favorite look is a deep colored wall with assorted white frames randomly displayed. This look is both modern and dramatic. Goodwill is a great place to find dozens of frames, making this simple trend an affordable one!
Tip: When adding different prints that reflect your personal style, don’t worry about matching. If you like two different prints that don’t look similar to one another, try them anyways; the result is almost always the fun, diverse look you intended for. The reason mixing patterns works so well in the first place, is because they don’t match, so mix away!
