Joanie — Spring in Her Step
Joanie's Favorite Item

Nice quality sandals with crystal embellishments (Moda)

Step up from flip flops! I love the gold & silver and I get lots of compliments.

From Goodwill:

  • MKM brown tank top - $3.99
  • LUX black skirt with silver sequins - $3.99
  • Bangles (3) - $1.99 each
  • Black & gold ball earrings - $1.99

From Joanie:

  • Sandals

On our model Joanie, Bjorn illustrates how easy it is to utilize one main piece – her GAP jean jacket – and building an outfit from there. Here we see the ever versatile denim jacket, which is what we would call a “transitional” piece because it can be worn throughout spring, summer and fall, depending on what you pair with it.

Here, Bjorn went for a warm weather look with Joanie’s own embellished flip flops leading the way. He found a fantastic layered mini skirt with sequined trim and a wrap effect and balanced that on top with a more neutral brown knit sleeveless top. Faux tortoiseshell bangles and gold ball dangle earrings help to promote a more finished and luxurious look. Now, when the breeze gets a little cool, all Joanie has to do is slip on her jean jacket, and she’ll be comfortable and fashionable.

This is a wonderful way to mix it up; with chiffon, sequined items, knits and denim, she’ll have all the style bases covered.

Black patent leather shoes (Aldo)

These are my “going out” shoes. I love the Aldo brand.

From Goodwill:

  • Carson Pirie Scott blue/white plaid - $3.99
  • Black pinstriped pants - $4.99
  • Blue/black checked vest - $3.99
  • London Fog tan trench coat - $6.99
  • J. Hoadavn red/blue tie - $1.49
  • Aviator sunglasses - $1.99

From Enrique:

  • Aldo black patent leather shoes

Enrique is wearing another example of the masculine layering trend, mixing texture and pattern. Bjorn added a punch of color with the red and blue striped tie and balanced it with a neutral trench coat. Just think of the patterned items shown here as neutrals. As long as they are in the same color family and general feeling, it doesn’t matter that the window pane plaid of the shirt is large in scale while the blue and black checked vest is small. Pulling it all together is the red and blue tie in yet another complimentary pattern.

To keep the classic vibe going, Bjorn used a pair of black pinstripe pants. The London Fog trench coat is a great way to add a transitional piece to your wardrobe. This works over a sport coat or on its own with vest and shirt (as styled here). Enrique’s favorite black leather shoes and aviator sunglasses add a touch of cool retro to the ensemble. This outfit proves than men don’t have to be limited in the way they express themselves when they dress for work or play.
