On runways and red carpets everywhere there’s a steady stream of sequined, metallic and leather shorts being worn bare-legged with heels.  They’re a great alternative to the mini skirt or mini dress.  I love this trend; it’s playfully sexy without being over the top and it’s guaranteed to make your legs look great! 

A nice pair of shorts can easily become evening wear if they are made of satin, velvet, leather or any other luxury fabric.  You can wear almost any blouse or dressy sweater with them, complemented by some key accessories. 

Great heels or high-heeled booties will keep your look long and lean.  And, unlike wearing a short mini dress, you won’t have to worry about how you’re sitting; a definite plus for gals!

For a day look, I recommend denim, wool and other fabrics that are less dressy on shorts.  Celebrities have been rocking shorts for daytime by pairing them with opaque tights or textured tights with leggings.  Complete the look with your favorite boots and a casual sweater or jacket. 

The sky is the limit when doing this updated fashion look!  Shorts can be worn with everything from bomber jackets to fur trimmed capes and coats.  Tights or leggings paired with boots are perfectly appropriate for daywear. 

While shopping at Goodwill, keep in mind that any pair of slacks can easily be made into a pair of fashion shorts, even if you don’t know how to sew.  Alternatives to sewing include iron-on hem tapes, glues and other methods.  However, if you have a talent for sewing or know a family friend or relative that does, you score! 

Take cues from magazines and other sources for ideas on the latest trends, so when you visit Goodwill you’ll find ways to recreate those fashions without spending designer prices. 

It may not be summer, but shorts are definitely a hot trend that’ll make you look really cool!
