Ski Fashion Takes Winter By Storm!

Fashion looks that stem directly from sporting apparel is nothing new, and a great example of that is the winter trend of ski apparel for everyday wear.  While skiing was once the realm of only the rich, now anyone can access the look without having to fly to Colorado, or overseas to the famed Swiss Alps.  For those that only want to LOOK like they know their way around a pair of skis, there are tons of options to get that "just off the slopes" look.

Over-the-top styles reign when it comes to ski fashion looks.  At the Goodwill Retail Store & Donation Center near you, now would be the time to scope out the racks for the pieces that can put your winter wear on the fashion map.

Hats and accessories are key items in the "apres ski" look.  The big furry hats with fold down earflaps, are really hot right now for cold weather high fashion.  In general, they're made of faux fur, but I have spied some caps that feature leather and real fur as well.  Anything with some fur embellishment on it could work!

Knit caps are also ubiquitous, and run the gamut from bright and sleek, to nubby handmade looks.  Skip the matched set, as it is much more fun to pull accessories that simply "go together" instead.  That's why Goodwill is such a great place to get accessories, as you can find a variety of inexpensive items, to craft your own unique prespective on this glamorous winter look.  For gloves, I personally like leather, or a combination of knit and leather, but don't let that stop you from collecting any type of gear that suits your style and your needs.  In my hall closet at home I keep three different bins;  one for scarves, one for gloves, and one for hats.  That way I can mix and match to suit my mood and my ensemble depending on the look I'm going for!

Coats, vests and sweaters make up the body of the look, but there is no right or wrong way to do this.  Are you more of a vintage lover?  Check out snowmobiling or ski jackets from the '70s and '80s, which feature a vibrant colored belt.  Maybe you like "puffer" coats and vests that feature down or poly filled coats with horizontal stitching?  Whichever you like, just make sure that the proportion doesn't overwhelm your body.  You still want to be able to move.  Avoid anything that would appear as though the "Michelin Man" may have once worn it!  Metallic, leather, synthetic and wool are all viable fabrics to look for, but again, FIT and FLATTER should guide you to choosing the right coat or jacket for winter wonderful fashion.

If you choose an outerwear vest, a great bulky sweater underneath would seem a logical bet.  However, if your coat is more substantial you should aim for a sleeker look such as a body skimming sweather, leggings or skinny jeans that will easily tuck into boots.

Check out the shoe area and you just might find some great "moon boots" or lace-up, style galoshes.  The fact that they're bulky, make them a great counterpoint to the slimmer jeans or other bottoms you might find.

Whether hitting the slopes, or just running errands, getting the "Aspen chic" look is as easy as hitting the Goodwill Retail Store & Donation Center, where experimenting with the latest ski fashion looks won't require skis and won't break the bank!
