Ask the Experts - Bjorn: Scarf Tricks Scarf Tricks
The simple scarf gives an instant update to many of spring’s styles and
is an inexpensive way to wear a trendy print or color. They can also be
made into amazing accessories! Subtle or bold, large or small, long or
short, these bits of fabric have the power to enliven even the blandest
ensemble. Right now would be the right time to visit your local Goodwill
Retail Store & Donation Center and see what you can find so you can
access this hot look. Traditionally, scarves have been worn around the
neck as a way to bring color to a neutral outfit. I’m going to focus on
how to use one scarf to create various looks by using it in “out of the
ordinary” ways.
I found this cool designer Anne Klein silk scarf
at the Goodwill Store near me for $2.99! It was interesting because fold
it one way and the black of the print becomes dominant; fold it the
other way, the fuchsia does. It is a generous size measuring 32” x 32”.
These larger sized scarves work well when doing a variety of different
looks.
As a head wrap, the scarf can be worn as a headband for
the hippie chic look. So many celebrities today rock this look with a
large pair of sunglasses, but how do they do it? Start with a large
scarf. Lay flat and fold two opposite corners to the center. Fold each
crease into the center one more time. This should now look like a long
rectangle with two points at each end. Find the center point and place
it at your forehead. Take the ends and tie in back of the head at the
nape of the neck. Adjust and put on a pair of cool shades and you’re
set!
It may also be folded in a triangle, kerchief style. This
is what I would call “old movie star glamour”. Such as when the female
star was riding in a convertible and didn’t want to muss her hair! I
want to banish bad hair days, and bring back the scarf. So instead of
tying the scarf behind your head, bring it under your chin and tie in
the back. It will pretty much cover all of your hair! So if you or your
friends have a convertible and like to drive fast, this may be a great
option for you. Again, a great pair of shades, like these Coach brand
ones I got at a discount shop, add allure and mystery too.
Be choosy when you’re looking for scarves. Gravitate
toward colors and patterns that you really love and will make you feel
good whenever you wear it. The indispensable scarf can make an outfit
more interesting. It is also an important way to add color and drama for
those too timid to try bold colors in the rest of their wardrobe. No
matter how you look at it, a gorgeous silk scarf is an amazing deal for
just $2.99. At the Goodwill Retail Store & Donation Center, fabulous
summer looks and a lot of shopping enjoyment are just around the corner
so stop by often to see what you can find to add a lot of dash for
little cash!
