An Autumn Welcome

We have packed away the skeletons and witches and now are moving right into Thanksgiving. It might be too early for turkeys, but take advantage of fall foliage to greet guests this month in your home.

Design Tip:  Create a great display by adding layers of texture, color and pattern that will carry you through the end of the month.

I have an iron table with a glass top placed under an old mirror in my foyer.  I added wood placemats give it a rustic feel ($1.99 each at Goodwill).

Design Tip: A foyer needs a table and mirror. Guests need a place to set their handbags when removing coats and typically like to check their hair before officially entering the party.

Another idea I had was to add this old cast urn (from my garden) to my foyer.  I dropped in a big pot of mums and its patina gives it an old world look.

Another item I added to the mix was this gold tray for $2.99. I was going to paint it, but then decided against it.  I liked the contrast between the rustic and elegant.  Besides, I could re-use it again and again and always paint it for the next project.

Then I added a layer of leaves and topped it with candles in fall colors.  When grouped like this, candles should be differing heights.  Never leave candles unattended and be sure nothing hangs over the flame.

Lastly, I tucked in some berries and gourds left over from last week.

It’s never too early to express your gratitude.  A brown ribbon and burnt edges on the card keep the rustic theme going.

A warm welcome is so easy to do with a few items found around your house and Goodwill.
