Jack-O-Lanterns aren’t the only way to illuminate your Halloween party. Decorated jars (right out of your frig) are so simple and inexpensive.

I decided to use re-used mayo and jam jars for this project.  I soaked the jars in a pan of water to get the labels off easily. Then I gathered up scraps of tissue paper.  I love the black and white polka dot I found in my stash.

Next, all I needed was a bottle of decoupage and a paint brush.

1.  Tear tissue paper into random shapes and sizes

2.  Brush decoupage glue on a small area of the jar

3.  Stick paper to wet spot

4.  Apply another coat of decoupage

5.  Repeat until the entire jar is covered

6.  Allow jar to dry before using

7.  I used a hair dryer to speed up the drying process!

To create a great display on a book shelf or mantle, I grouped Halloween items together.  I made sure to pay attention to texture, height and color.

I also grouped three gourds (remember the odd number rule). Then I added a trio of mini pumpkins and a ghost.

On the other small shelf, I placed one of my trusty crows, a pumpkin man and a little heart I made from an old quilt—re-purposing at its finest!

Balance is also very important when building a great display.  On the lower shelf, I used a larger ceramic ghost, a couple of mini pumpkins and another crow.

Use a few design tricks and you can create a “ghoulishy great” display too.
