Bedroom Makeover—Refresh the View

I used every square inch of the purple drapery panel for the head board and the big throw pillow.  Since there wasn’t any left over for drapery panels, I found a shower curtain in a similar shade of purple for $2.99.

I cut off the top header (the button holes) and sewed a simple rod pocket.  If you don’t know how to sew or don’t own a sewing machine, you can use fabric glue to hold the pocket in place.

Of course the shower curtain wasn’t long enough, so I added a band at the bottom using the same fabric as the bed spread.

Design Tip 1: Drapery panels need to be floor length. They can even “puddle” on the floor a bit.

Design Tip 2: Hanging drapery panels as high as possible (to the ceiling) creates the allusion of higher ceilings.  They draw your eye up.

I overlapped the original hem from the shower curtain and top stitched it to the bottom piece.  You can use a fusible hem-tape and all you need is an iron to continue the no-sew technique.

Stationary panels are not meant to open and close and since it’s a bedroom, I would add shades for privacy.

I found a silver rod with a glass final at Goodwill ($6.99) and I used the same brackets already in place.  Note: If the curtains were to stay, I definitely would have hung them closer to the ceiling.

Next week a dresser make-over!
