Bedroom Makeover—It's in the Details

It’s amazing what you can do with one drapery panel.  I love the challenge of creating great interior design on a budget and with as-is objects. A couple of weeks ago I showed you how to make a 3-part headboard. I was careful to cut the fabric to take advantage of every square inch, particularly the embroidered flowers.

I used the smaller flower on the headboard and saved the larger one for a big pillow.  Since there wasn’t enough purple for the backing, I dug up some red fabric in my stash.  Using a contrasting fabric on the back of your pillows makes them more interesting. If you don’t have a fabric stash, Goodwill linen departments are a great source for sheets and table cloths you can use.

I cut out the design leaving a 1/2” seam allowance all around.  Do the same for the backing fabric.  With right sides together, sew the two pieces.  Be sure to leave a section open so you can stuff it!  Turn it right side out and fill it up with fiber fill or feathers.

I decided to stuff it loosely, but you could add lots of fill for a sturdy floor pillow.

I love how a bit of the red shows.  It’s a color that I will introduce in other parts of the room for contrast.

We have the beginning of a high-end bedroom and I’ve spent less than $20 so far!
