Goodwill Style: Bedroom Makeover, Part I Redecorating an entire room can seem daunting, time consuming and expensive – but it doesn’t have to be. The key is to have a plan:
- Identify the Design Challenge (how will the room be used)
- Identify your style
- Set a realistic budget
This summer I am going to take you through the redecorating process. I’ll share tips and ideas and show you step-by-step directions on how to create a fabulous room on a budget, one that only looks like it cost a million bucks.
Design Challenge:
Transform this teenager’s bedroom into a relaxing guest room. Anna is away at college, and her mom thinks it’s time to get a bit more sophisticated.
Identity Your Style:
In my design business, I help clients discover their own Signature Style. My job as a designer is to help you put your personality into your home.
If Anna moves back home after graduation, she will want to live in a space that is grown-up and contemporary. Her Mom wants a room that is warm and welcoming.
Set a Realistic Budget:
This might be the hardest part of any redecorating or remodeling project but also one of the most important. As a designer, I need to know how much you have to spend so I can make the right recommendations. When you’re shopping, a budget can help you focus on key pieces.
The challenge for this room is to create a sophisticated and chic space for a few hundred dollars, repurposing and incorporating as many items from Goodwill as possible! This is my kind of challenge!
Before:
- Anna must have been in a dark green phase when she painted her bedroom!
- She is, however, very artistic. She designed and hand-painted the corner motifs
- The house is a 1950s ranch with basic pine molding and hollow core doors. The carpet is in good condition and a neutral color, so that will stay.
- It will be fun figuring out what to do in this little bump-out corner.
Join me on this redecorating journey. You will be amazed at what I find at Goodwill!
