Yankee Doodle Dandy
Please Be Seated
The 4th of July means summer has officially started. It’s a day of tradition for many families. My group of friends has been going to the same parade since our high school days. I take turns with my friend Bonnie hosting a pre-parade brunch. You know me, nothing I love better than setting a patriotic table for very little expense!
One of the things I love about Independence Day decorating is you can reuse many of the same things you bring out at Christmas.
Like these chargers for instance. I found red ones at Goodwill for a dollar a piece and can use them in December and on Valentine’s Day, too.
If you look for a particular color without a specific theme (such as flags), you will find yourself using your bargains more often. As much as I love dishes, even I have limited storage space! The swirl rim on these plates is the perfect shade of blue.
You must have white salad plates or bowls by now. See how practical they are? You can use white over and over.
Star napkin rings are another hold-over from Christmas. Hammered brass with bandanas gives the table a rustic, hometown look. Use the rings again with white napkins next December.
I did this entire 4th of July table without a single flag. It’s all about color and unique accessories. I found wood sailboat/lighthouse stands for $1.99 each. I’m not exactly sure what their original purpose was. Maybe to sit on a shelf with a plant?
First I tried them lying on the plate with the napkin tucked underneath.
But I like this idea better. Stand the lighthouses upright and light a star shaped candle. Very festive and fun. Bring a bit of a summer beach to your table.
Scatter star confetti on the tablecloth.
The best part of this table setting is its versatility. Perfect for July 4th or any summer dinner or lunch.
