Father’s Day Dining Delight
Father’s Day Dining Delight
Pamper dad on Sunday with a meal prepared just for him. Even if dad likes to do the cooking or grilling, set a fabulous table and take care of the clean-up.
Think earth tones and rustic elements when setting the table for the men in your life.
Instead of a table cloth, I used a piece of woven fabric left over from another project. I folded under the raw edges and neatly trimmed the ends. But you could sew a hem all the way around for a finished piece that you could use again.
Look for heavy stoneware or ceramic dishes. These plates ($2.99 each) came in green and navy blue and were perfect as “cover” plates.
This vintage cat-tail plate ($1.99) was the inspiration for the whole table. If your dad is a hunter or fisherman, what could be more perfect?
A wood salad bowl (99¢) adds weight. Set it off to the side so you don’t cover the design on the plate.
No fancy napkin folds or rings for dad. Tuck a gold or coordinating napkin in the bowl.
I had to shop at several stores before finding the right glasses. Gold goblets ($1.99 each) are perfect for wine, water or even iced tea. The hand-made clay cups look like they were meant to go with the runner and were only 99¢ each.
Dad wouldn’t expect anything fussy for a centerpiece. I gathered candles and some iron birds and used an old box to create height.
Dad will love a meal served at a table set just for him. The best part? I can re-use everything next fall for a harvest dinner!
