They say everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. My son Patrick assumed the day was named after him and since he does have Irish ancestors, the day is his at our house.
Regardless of your heritage or namesake, you can celebrate the patron saint of Ireland with a simple shamrock.
Shamrocks are generally kelly green, but bright lime adds a contemporary spin to a traditional symbol. You can draw your own, look for clip art or download the one I made. Trace the shamrock on paper, felt or craft foam (any material that won’t ravel) and cut it out.
To set a festive table, no need to buy green dishes, place the shamrock between a white dinner plate and clear salad plate.
Napkin rings are just as easy. Punch two holes or with scissors carefully cut two slits in the middle of the shamrock and thread 1/8” craft ribbon through the holes.
Gently fold the napkin in a fan shape and tie the ribbon at the back. Voila, you should start feeling really lucky!
Do the same with pillar candles. Just glue the shamrock to the candle along with rows of ribbon and any sized candle will do.
Fill up on corned beef and cabbage and toast to your good health on March 17. If you have a great recipe email it to me at askmerri@goodwillsew.com or post it on our AmazingGoodwill Facebook page.
May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks
May your heart be as light as a song
May each day bring you bright
Happy hours that stay with you all the year long.
~Irish Blessing
