Show us your "green" side with our Upcycling Contest! It's time to Reduce, Reuse, Upcycle!

What is Upcycling?:

  • Upcycling is a relatively new term, but one you will be hearing a lot about this year and in years to come. To upcycle an item or material, means to convert it into something more valuable by making it of higher quality and/or higher environmental use.
  • One example of upcycling includes creating a dress out of sweaters you're no longer using. Another example is creating a handbag out of candy wrappers. The possibilities are endless, so have fun with your creation!
  • For upcycling inspiration, take a look at a few Upcycle Projects we've done ourselves! Or, find ideas from Upcycle Magazine!

How You’ll Enter:

  • Show off your best upcycling project! Purchase an item from Goodwill Industries of southeastern Wisconsin and metropolitan Chicago, and use it to create a different item, with a different purpose (photos only, no videos please).
  • Eligible photos must be submitted between March 27 – April 16, 2012.
  • Submit a photo of your item to social@goodwillsew.com along with a description of the upcycled item. Also, tell us a little bit about yourself. Are you a student? What are your hobbies? We'd love to hear about you as an artist!
  • Include “Upcycling Contest” in the subject line of your e-mail. Be sure to let us know the e-mail address that you can best be reached at also.
  • You may submit more then one entry, but all contestants may only win once. This ensures that every contestant has a fair chance at winning.

Rules & Guidelines:

  • Photos, and items created, need to remain tasteful; anything deemed otherwise may not be eligible for voting.
  • 75% of the contestant's “upcycled item” must be from any of our participating Goodwill Store & Donation Centers.
  • Top 5 contestants must be able to provide proof of purchase from Goodwill Industries of southeastern Wisconsin and metropolitan Chicago.
  • The winner will be selected by judges appointed for the purpose by Goodwill Industries. Their decision is final.
  • Goodwill Industries reserves the right not to select a winner if, in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received.
  • Submitting your photo to social@goodwillsew.com gives us permission to post it on Facebook and amazinggoodwill.com.
  • Employees at Goodwill Industries of southeastern Wisconsin and metropolitan Chicago are ineligible to submit photos for the contest.

Voting:

  • Voting will run April 17, 2012 – April 23, 2012.
