What is your experience with thrifting?
Cynthia: I’ve always been into thrifting. I think it’s starting to become mainstream now and so many more people are gravitating towards it. When I shop, I usually look in the clearance section to see what creative and inexpensive pieces I can find so becoming a Goodwill shopper was an easy transition.
What’s your strategy for picking out items at Goodwill?
Cynthia: Sometimes it can be tricky because the goal is to step outside of your comfort zone with something unique, while still finding something that looks really good on you. I think that’s the beauty of Goodwill shopping. You get to try new things and see what pieces work on you and what pieces don’t work. The exciting part about shopping at Goodwill is that you never know what you’re going to find. Take advantage of the variety that Goodwill provides. The variety is going to help you expand your wardrobe and the risk is taken away because the items are so inexpensive.
What do you look for when you shop?
Cynthia: I try to stick with a color scheme. I really love mixing neutral pieces with items that really stand out and are really bright. I tend to stay away from items that are flashy, but my goal is to have a specific item within my outfit that stands out. I get a lot of my items from the Naperville, IL Goodwill store. They have some really nice upscale items for a fraction of the suggested retail price. When you find a Goodwill store that has items you like, stick to the store and visit often. That’s how I’ve been able to find a lot of my outfits!
