How would you describe your experience as a Thrifter?
Christine: I’ve been thrifting for a long time now. I thrifted a lot in high school because I found that it’s an easy way to get really creative outfits while sticking to a budget. I’ve gotten use to going to Goodwill and picking out items that are appealing to me and I see it as a challenge to find great items. The best thing about thrifting is that you get to go through anything in the store without having to worry about a price tag because all of the items at Goodwill are so inexpensive.
Is there a difference in the way you shop for clothes at Goodwill vs. other stores?
Christine: Yes, when I am shopping at fashion retail stores and I find something that I like, I usually find my size and purchase the item. When I’m thrifting and I find something that I like, I will ask myself, “What can I do to make this item more appealing? How can I customize this?” I think in order to be considered a “Thrifter” you have to have a creative side that forces you to think outside of the box.
What do you look for when you shop?
Christine: I really like vintage and throwback pieces that I can make more modern. I just recently visited Goodwill and purchased some athleisure items. These are athletic items that can be worn in various environments like school or work. I love finding items separately and piecing them together to create a look that is completely different than what the piece was intended for.
