Celebrating the 4th!

Find me on:

Celebrating the 4th!

What three words describe the 4th of July? Fireworks, parades and picnics! It’s a holiday worth celebrating with a bang. For me the day starts with morning brunch for family and friends. One of the best things about setting a patriotic table is the fact that you can reuse red dishes from Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

I didn’t have a blue table cloth, but a quick trip to Goodwill and I found a navy shower curtain. How perfect is that at $2.99? To top it off, I laid a red burlap runner (also found at Goodwill).

Enter the Christmas plates, but I didn’t like the red on red combo, so I added silver chargers for contrast. These chargers are actually metal (maybe pewter?) and another amazing Goodwill find.

You know my mantra: “layer, layer, layer!” Blue and white salad plates and red bowls (from a recent Valentine’s Day dinner) keep the table setting interesting.

Don’t tell anyone, but the napkins are embroidered dish towels! Inexpensive and easy to launder. I found the red “spoon handle” napkin rings on the clearance shelf at another store.

Fill the center of the table with star confetti, candles in punched cans and a star garland with little lights.

For the red, white and blue the menu…

How about blueberry pancakes with strawberry sauce? Yummy!
