There are summer staples like knit t-shirts and tank tops of course, but this week I prefer to look at more stylish options for the discriminating fashionista. Goodwill is a great source for exploration in the world of fashion. At Goodwill everything is arranged by size, color and the type of garment it is. I decided to look for some cool summer tops, or sleeveless blouses that could dress up or down with just about anything you pair it with.
I found five great examples of high-style, low price sleeveless tops that were $3.99 each, so that brought my total to $19.95 plus tax at my local Goodwill store. You just can’t beat that anywhere for the quality designer pieces I found, or the funky looks you’ll see below.
My inspiration was two looks that I photographed at New York Fashion Week, both of them sleeveless and paired with other separates. Always remember that inspiration doesn’t mean copying, but instead stoking creative thinking about summer dressing.
I found a belted, satin floral top with beading and ruffles at the neck by Etcetera. This was NWT (new with tags) and reminded me of high-end looks from so many designers.
A shell like a sequin tank from Banana Republic is a subtle way to emulate summer by the seashore sparkle when paired with shorts, or jeans, or skirt.
A ruffled Cynthia Rowley ruffled lace top in classic black would dress up capris or jeans perfectly.
A no-name brand fast-fashion tank with sheer back and lips on the front is a wild card, but it could be fun with Chuck Taylors and distressed denim.
Lastly, a boho-Liz Claiborne look has the feeling of old world craftsmanship and would be great over a tank or as a swimsuit cover up too.
All these ideas are free, and a trip to Goodwill will be priceless to your warm weather wardrobe!
