Recycled Style with Shady Lady Accessories

Find me on:

Recycled Style with Shady Lady AccessoriesSome people just have an eye for turning trash into treasure, as they say. My friend model, make-up artist and actress, Neda Stevic does just that with her Shady Lady accessories. Fashion is about being unique, and nothing is better than a one-of-a-kind piece! She has shown her wares at New Orleans Fashion Week, and often auctions off pieces and donates the proceeds to charity. You can check out her Facebook page here.

How did Shady Lady Accessories come about?

My Shady Lady line began in 2010 when I attempted to be really creative and make a recycled jewelry collection as a Christmas present for my best friend, Carrie. At that time, we were both trying to challenge ourselves by creating presents for each other. I have kept it going ever since, and keep incorporating new materials such as recycled dryer sheets, rubber tires, and old jewelry.

Goodwill has a motto of reduce, reuse, recycle. How does your Shady Lady brand promote that idea?

The Shady Lady line promotes the idea of 'reduce, reuse, recycle' by creating each one-of-a-kind piece with recycled goods. The idea is that not everything is disposable. You can make some of the most beautiful, unique jewelry pieces or wearable art from common items people mindlessly discard. And it's a great feeling to help the environment at the same time!

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

I find ideas for my line everywhere, but particularly in nature. Many of the colors I gravitate towards are darker, yet iridescent, much like peacock feathers or the wings of a fly. Nature is the most beautiful art form, and I like to emulate the shape of a spider web, cloud formation, or characteristics in roses and honeycombs in my work.

What is your best fashion tip?

My greatest fashion tip is to just be yourself. It's the most confident look you can pull off, and it doesn't cost a cent. In a world where everyone is trying to be someone else, people find authenticity and originality inspiring.

Why not take Neda’s advice and find ways to reduce, reuse and recycle by shopping at Goodwilll?
